Who we are

The Rotary Club of Kampala East came into being on 10th March 1987, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Kampala West. It was formally admitted into Rotary International on 5th March 1988 and chartered on 3rd May 1988, with Rtn. Paul Masembe-Nteyafa (RIP) as Charter President, leading 35 Charter Members. Seven of those founding members remain active in the club today — a testament to the bonds Rotary builds.

Over 39 years, RCKE has grown from 35 charter members to 60 active Rotarians. The club's first project — sinking the Alipo Well in Mutungo — set the tone for a legacy of practical, community-first service that continues under the leadership of President Rachel Mindra Katoroogo PHF for the 2026–2027 Rotary Year.

RCKE is proud to have participated in the formation of the Rotary clubs of Portbell, Kasangati, Nsangi, and Kampala Palms, and continues to maintain an active Rotary Community Corps (RCC) in Kalandazzi — home to the club's forest and its Rotary Adopt-a-Village programme.

Rotary is a global organization of 1.4 million business and professional leaders united in the ideal of service. Founded by Paul Harris and three colleagues on 23 February 1905 in Chicago, USA, Rotary today spans 35,000+ clubs in 169 countries. Rotary's mission is to advance international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship united in service.
